CROOKED COLOURS PLYMOUTH

For the past eighteen months, Australian trio Crooked Colours have been holed up in the studio piecing together their debut album, Vera, which is out now via Sweat It Out. It’s a refreshing mix of indie and electronic music, the likes of which we’ve heard recently from the likes of Tora, Deafkid, Majik and Colouring, but each time it manages to be a vector for genuine emotion that doesn’t overwhelm the song entirely. The current object of our affection is ‘Plymouth’, a single which steadily climbs with Foals-esque guitar arrangements, layered percussion, a hearty bass line and repeated vocal samples that echo passion or despair or pleasure. In keeping with other album singles like ‘Flow’, the Perth band exude that indie-chill vibe, but make room for punchy electronics and addictive, dance-inducing rhythms that make ‘Plymouth’ another standout single from Crooked Colours. - HT
